Description: Additional Flag icons for Workbench 3.5 Locale
Requires: Any Amiga running Workbench 3.5; a corresponding Locale .country file (not included)
Created by: David Woolley <daveyw@sinsurf.co.nz>
Note: This archive contains ONLY ICONS for use with Locale 3.5. You will need to source your own Locale files (*.country) to go with them.
The Flags in this icon are 32-colour .iff images, and as such will work with an Amiga from Workbench 1.0 up. However, they are intended to be used as icons with Workbench 3.5's Locale Prefs. They cannot be used with the Locale Prefs of any lower Workbench version. The icons attached to each .iff file can only be viewed under Workbench 3.5.
1. What is this?
---------
The new GUI for Locale Prefs in Workbench 3.5 displays a Flag icon next to each Locale file, When I installed Workbench 3.5, I discovered that the CD lacked a Locale file for my country (New Zealand). It also lacked a corresponding Flag icon. Whilst I was able to use my NZ.country file from 3.1, I had to draw my own .iff image to go with it.
It may well be the case for many Amiga-users scattered across the globe. Whilst I can't provide the Locale files, I can provide a selection of Flags from many countries to use with 3.5's Locale Prefs.
This archive contains Flags for the following countries:
Argentina
Bahrain
Bangladesh
Bolivia
Brazil
Chile
Dominican Republic
Egypt
Finland
Greece
Hungary
Iceland
India
Indonesia
Ireland
Israel
Ivory Coast
Jamaica
Japan
Kuwait

Mexico
New Zealand
Nigeria
Oman
Peru
Poland
Puerto Rico
Qatar
San Marino
Seychelles
Singapore
Taiwan
Thailand
Turkey
United Arab Emirates
2. Installation
---------
Installation is fairly simple (at least, it's a damn-sight easier to installed than 3.5 :) ).
1). The name of the Flag file must match the name of your country's locale file in Locale:Countries , minus the .country extention. You may need to rename the Flag file. So, if your locale file is called "eire.country", then you will need to rename "ireland" to "eire". They must match exactly, including case, underscores (_), and special characters (é,ü, etc.)
2). Copy the Flag file from the archive to the Locale:Flags/Countries directory.
3). That's it. You shouldn't need to reboot. Simply run Locale Prefs, and your country's flag should be next to the name of your Locale file in the list.
Hardware Used: A1200T '030, 3M "Precise" Mousing Surface (which got chucked when I realised that my definition of "precise" differs radically from 3M's), and The Reader's Digest Guide to Places of the World :)
I've included a fair selection of countries, but there are a few missing that I would've liked to included, especially from Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the Baltic States. Unfortunately, my Guide dates from the 80s and isn't up to date, and so I don't know what their flags are. There are a few other countries I'd've liked to include, but they were just too hard to draw. :(
I'm no artist, so I hope that you find the quality of these images acceptable. Looking through my Guide's pages of flags, it was hard to tell the difference between red & orange. However, the originals suffered from the same problem (note to Haage & Partner- the Union Jack is red not orange :) ).
I've not done any "Keymaps" icons, as those included on the CD should be sufficient.
If you'd like to drop me a line to quiz, complain, suggest, or (heaven-forbid) thank, you can email me daveyw@sinesurf.co.nz .PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't send me death threats because you feel that my lack of artistic ability has defiled your mother/father/sister-in-law land's glorious flag.
